About Our
Organisation

Through these activities, also the supply chain for systems was accelerated and improved. Also the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) was highly involved in this network. The Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) provides financial support for the association's activities. Both associations are well-linked to the main actors in Europe. ARTEMIS-Austria is a member of the Centers of Innovation Excellence EICOSE and ProcessiT. In the area of semiconductor manufacturing, members from ENIAC-Austria actively coordinated the first European pilot line projects. As a result of these activities, the partners not only generate benefits for their respective organizations but also highly contribute to innovation in Austria, thus, increasing knowledge and employment.

Austrian Activities
for JU ECSEL in Horizon 2020

ECSEL's challenge is to combine the activities of ENIAC, ARTEMIS as well as EPoSS. Following this vision in Austria, the separate associations were merged into the ECSEL-Austria association. The various interest groups are still active. However, they are also seeking to generate the potential of synergies and additional value chain for the future. Another challenge is to build more projects as pilot lines with the integration of hardware, software and smart systems, also considering sensors or actuators. Many examples of such cooperations already proved to result in innovations, which are also an ambitious goal in Horizon 2020.

The process of this merger  started in May 2013 and was finalized end of 2013. The new association ECSEL-Austria, Ied to a lean organization as well as to improved communication between all stakeholders in Austria. It aims to create synergies along the full value chain toward innovation and leadership in electronic components and systems made in Europe.

In November 2021, ECSEL JU was renamed into Key Digital Technologies Joint Undertaking (KDT JU). With the programme's name change, ECSEL-Austria decided to rename to ESBS-Austria (Electronics and Software Based Systems) as of April 2022. The new and programme-independant name shall also reflect the high significance of software as integral component of electronic based systems.

The ECSEL success story is based on our joint effort of working together, actively involving every single member. As a result, ECSEL-Austria was in a position to acquire above-average research funds in the EBS area. These research resources enabled the development of our eco-system.
