ESBS-AUSTRIA

ESBS-Austria is an industry-led, national research, development, and innovation platform in the field of electronics and software-based systems. The platform enhances Austria’s international visibility and strategic positioning. Bringing together more than 40 members from industry, research und public sector, ESBS-Austria provides a strong platform to sustainably strengthen innovation, competitiveness and technological leadership as integral part of the Austrian Industrial Strategy 2035.

More about us

ESBS-Austria represents a broad and rapidly evolving technology portfolio. Its members are actively developing innovations in:

Micro- and Nanoelectronics
Advanced semiconductor technologies remain a strategic foundation for Europe's digital sovereignty and industrial competitiveness.

Embedded Software Systems
Modern products increasingly rely on embedded intelligence, AI-enabled engineering tools, software architectures, and autonomous decision-making capabilities.

Sensor Technologies and Smart Systems
Sensors and intelligent systems enable applications ranging from industrial automation and mobility to healthcare and environmental monitoring.

Photonics and Quantum Technologies
Members are contributing to the next generation of Quantum computing, communication, and sensing, and photonic technologies.

Cybersecurity
Secure digital infrastructures and resilient electronic systems are becoming critical success factors for industry and society.

Communication and Connectivity Technologies
Future 6G communication systems, including advanced wireless technologies and industrial connectivity solutions focusing on highly reliable low latency communication and Integrated sensing and communications, are essential building blocks of digital transformation.

Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV)
The automotive industry is undergoing a transition toward software-centric vehicle architectures, creating significant opportunities for Austrian technology companies.

AI-Assisted Development Platforms
A rapidly growing focus area is the application of artificial intelligence to hardware and software development processes. AI-assisted development environments improve productivity, accelerate innovation cycles, and enable more efficient system engineering throughout the product lifecycle.

In 2022, following the transition of the European ECSEL Joint Undertaking to the Key Digital Technologies Joint Undertaking (KDT JU), the association adopted its current name, ESBS-Austria (Electronics and Software-Based Systems Austria).

The new name reflects the growing importance of software as an integral part of modern electronic systems and emphasizes the organization's mission to advance innovation across the converging worlds of electronics, software, and intelligent systems.

As digital technologies become increasingly interconnected, the integration of electronics, software, artificial intelligence, connectivity, and advanced semiconductor technologies will continue to shape the future of industry.

ESBS-Austria serves as the platform where these disciplines come together. By fostering national collaboration, strengthening European partnerships, and supporting innovation across the complete value chain, ESBS-Austria is helping position Austria as a leading European hub for Electronic and Software-Based Systems and ensuring the long-term global success of Austrian industry.
