The BMK sets the course for a sustainable and climate-friendly policy and economy, it regulates and manages transport on Austria's roads by land, air, water and rail, ensures energy supply, promotes research and the provision of innovative technologies "Made in Austria" and implements the mobility of the future today.
The Mission of the BMK is to create and develop an intelligent and efficient infrastructure; to shape and promote innovative initiatives. Its work is geared to developing Austria in a sustainable manner, making the country a desirable location and improving the quality of life of its citizens.
The Directorate General for Innovation and Technology is setting the strategic agenda for funding applied research. Policy alignment on national and international level is addressing societal challenges and industrial needs. Digital and key enabling technologies are shaping the future and need to be co-created.

- implementing the Chips Act through the Chips Joint Undertaking
- steering in the IPCEI Microelectronic and Communication (ME/CT)
- taking in active part in the stakeholder dialogue
